Kole Calhoun's Option Declined
5 years agoThe Los Angeles Angels declined their $14 million option for the 2020 season on outfielder Kole Calhoun on Monday, making him a free agent. Calhoun got off to an atrocious start in 2019 but bounced back with a solid second half to finish with a .232/.325/.467 slash line, a career-high 33 home runs, 74 RBI, 92 runs scored and four stolen bases in 152 games. The Halos need the money as they attempt to pursue prized free-agent starter Gerrit Cole this offseason, and the Angels have several young outfield prospects that could bookend Mike Trout moving forward. The 32-year-old Calhoun has some pop but is a streaky hitter and strikes out too much, but his excellent defense should land him a starting job elsewhere.
