Billy Hamilton A Free Agent Once Again
5 years agoThe Atlanta Braves declined their mutual option on outfielder Billy Hamilton for the 2020 season, making him a free agent. Hamilton had a $7.5 million mutual option, but the Braves will instead pay him a $1 million buyout. He earned an extra $200,000 this year in bonuses based on plate appearances. The 29-year-old hit a putrid .218 with no home run, 15 RBI and 22 stolen bases in 119 games with the Royals and Braves. Hamilton possesses elite speed, but he continues to struggle to steal first base. He's become a bench player at the major league level, but his speed makes him a valuable asset off the bench as a pinch runner/defensive replacement late in games.
