Miles Sanders 2019 Outlook: Stuck in RBBC For Now
5 years agoThe Philadelphia Eagles selected running back Miles Sanders in the second round of the 2019 draft, and presumably see him as the future of their backfield. The most recent Eagles' running back to get drafted before the fourth round was LeSean McCoy 10 years ago. The franchise is well-run enough to know not to spend valuable draft capital on a fungible position but must have liked Sanders enough to go and get him. Although Sanders' college numbers do not stand out like his predecessor at Penn State (Saquon Barkley), the tape shows a skilled runner, capable of finding holes and creating space. He is more of a finesse runner than a bruising back but that is fine given how talented his offensive line is going to be. He was not heavily utilized in the pass-game but possesses solid hands and should have plenty of room to operate with the talent surrounding him in Philadelphia. The committee concerns are legitimate. However, by mid-season, if Sanders can display his talents in even a limited role, there is no doubt that his play-time will increase heavily. It's a wait-and-see for now, but at his current seventh/eighth-round ADP, he is a worthwhile gamble.
