Sterling Shepard Takes Over As Giants Top Receiver In 2019
5 years agoNew York Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard will enter the 2019 season as the number one wideout on the team’s depth chart. Having signed a four-year, $41 million extension in April, the 26-year-old will now be tasked with filling the massive void left by Odell Beckham Jr., who was traded to the Cleveland Browns this past offseason. Though the 26-year-old compiled 872 receiving yards on 107 targets in 2018, he made only four trips to the end zone throughout the entire season, half the amount that he had during his rookie campaign in 2016. After breaking his thumb at the inception of training camp, Shepard stated that he will be ready to go when the Giants’ season kicks off against the Dallas Cowboys. With one of the easiest schedules in the league and with little competition outside of Golden Tate, who will miss the first four games while serving a suspension, Shepard may finally hit 1,000 yards, with the only hindrance being the uncertainty surrounding the quarterback position and running back Saquon Barkley being heavily involved in the team’s 2019 game plan.
