Diamondbacks Trade For Mike Leake
5 years agoThe Arizona Diamondbacks acquired starting pitcher Mike Leake from the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday in exchange for 22-year-old infielder Jose Caballero, according to a source. Arizona will pick up only $6 million of the remaining money owed to Leake. The 31-year-old nearly had a perfect game several weeks ago, but he's also 9-8 with a 4.40 ERA and 1.26 WHIP on the season. Leake gives up a lot of homers and doesn't strike that many out, but he's also tied for 17th in the majors in quality starts with 13. The move to the desert gives him a bit more appeal as a deep league streamer. Caballero was a seventh-round pick in 2017 and was hitting .268 with a .388 on-base percentage and three homers for High-A Visalia before the trade.
