Trenton Cannon 2019 Player Outlook: Lucky To Break Camp With Jets
6 years agoCannon was barely a blip on fantasy football radar screens during most of the 2018 season until the New York Jets lost their top two running backs, Isaiah Crowell and Bilal Powell, to season-ending injuries. Cannon was thrust into a backup role behind third-stringer Elijah McGuire for the latter part of the season and failed to score a touchdown or record a 20-yard rushing game. The former sixth-round pick has even less of a chance to make any fantasy noise in 2019 now that the Jets spent multimillions on Le’Veon Bell to be the workhorse tailback, PLUS they re-signed Powell and brought in Green Bay veteran Ty Montgomery. Cannon is a shifty change-of-pace back on the smallish side who could make some plays in certain situations if used properly, but the fact is that he might make more of an impact on special teams than on offense in 2019. Getting cut during the preseason would have been better for his fantasy value. Cannon would need about 17 different things to happen before he could even dream of being the go-to guy in the Jets’ rushing attack. He would have a better chance at hitting the Powerball…twice.
