Jimmy Graham 2019 Outlook: Can He Connect With Rodgers?
6 years agoAaron Rodgers just hasn’t seemed to gel with a tight end since Jermichael Finley. The likes of Jared Cook, Martellus Bennett, and now Jimmy Graham have been brought to the Frozen Tundra of Green Bay in order to give Rodgers a weapon in the middle of the field and in the red zone. Last year, it didn’t quite pan out as the Packers had hoped as Graham caught 55 passes on 89 targets for 636 yards and only 2 TDs. Currently, Graham is being drafted in the 13th round. With the addition of first-year head coach Matt LaFleur, the Green Bay offense should have a new look but this isn’t necessarily good news for Graham. The Titans, whom LaFleur was the offensive coordinator for last year, finished 25th in the league in TE targets. Delanie Walker’s injury and their slow pace of play surely contributed to this, though. When LaFleur was with the Rams in 2017 under head coach Sean McVay, the Rams ranked 27th in TE targets. All of this in addition to Graham having to learn a new offense for the second straight year. He is a phenomenal talent though and continues to be insanely athletic. He could have a chance to thrive in 2019 with a more efficient offense but he will need more red zone targets as he only recorded five receptions on 11 targets for three TDs.
