Mike Davis 2019 Outlook - Mauled by the Bears
6 years agoAfter a solid 2018, Mike Davis was feeling good. He parlayed his season into a two-year contract with the Chicago Bears. He was in line to have plenty of work after the trade of Jordan Howard to the Eagles. Then the draft happened and the team used their third-round pick on running back David Montgomery. Not only was it their first pick of the draft but they traded up to get him in the fold. With the pick went the fantasy prospects of Mike Davis.
Tarik Cohen has the pass-catching role in the offense. Despite having less than 100 carries in 2018 he was still fantasy relevant due to his 71 receptions for 725 yards and five receiving touchdowns. David Montgomery is also a solid pass catcher from the backfield and along with his rush ability, he will take over the Howard role of 250 carries. This makes David Montgomery and Tarik Cohen the backs to own in Chicago. This of course changes should an injury occur in the preseason but if nothing changes for the top two, nothing changes for Davis either. He will be hard-pressed to find close to the same success with the Bears which he had with Seattle. 112 rushes, 514 yards and four touchdowns might be a pipe dream this season.
If drafting early in the preseason, Davis should not be in consideration for a roster slot. If the preseason comes and either Montgomery or Cohen get hurt, he can be picked up off waivers if better options are not available. Consider him a deep-league handcuff or desperation fill-in if disaster strikes.
