Donte Moncrief 2019 Player Outlook: Force Or Flop?
6 years agoMoncrief’s 48 receptions for 668 yards and three touchdowns in 2018 did not do anybody any fantasy favors, but you have to commend him for being able to do that much when Blake Bortles and Cody Kessler were his quarterbacks. Moncrief has so much going for him heading into the 2019 campaign. Now he is part of Pittsburgh’s high-flying offense instead of Jacksonville’s run-first offense, and he has Ben Roethlisberger throwing to him instead of the Bortles/Kessler combo. Even better, with Antonio Brown and his big mouth in Oakland, Moncrief slides in as Pittsburgh’s No. 2 WR alongside JuJu Schuster. Before you pencil him in for a 1,000-yard year, though, remember that the Steelers drafted Oklahoma St. product James Washington in the second round. Washington could pose a serious threat to Moncrief’s starting spot at some point in the season. Also remember that Moncrief was no Jerry Rice during his time in Indianapolis with Andrew Luck as his signal caller (career-high 64-733-6 line in 2015), so being with “Big Ben” does not mean he will automatically become a fantasy force. Moncrief slots in as a WR3 for 2019 but could easily become a WR2 if he becomes an integral part of Pittsburgh’s passing attack, or he could easily become a fantasy flop if he gets overtaken by Washington on the depth chart and has another 600-yard season.
