Zach Eflin Placed On Injured List, Cole Irvin Back Up
6 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies placed starting pitcher Zach Eflin (back) on the 10-day injured list on Friday with mid-back tightness and recalled starter Cole Irvin from Triple-A Lehigh Valley in a corresponding move. Eflin's injured list stint is retroactive to May 28. Eflin was 5-5 with a decent 3.02 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 14 walks and 51 strikeouts over 11 starts (65 2/3 innings). The right-hander doesn't strike many batters out, and his FIP of 4.35 suggests he's been a little fortunate in the ERA department. Eflin can still be a very useful streamer in the right matchups when he returns. Irvin, a rookie, has made three starts for the Phils this year and has allowed 17 hits (three homers) and 11 earned runs while walking five and fanning 13 in 17 2/3 innings. He'll presumably fill Eflin's rotation spot for the time being but will be a risky streaming arm in deeper leagues.
