Mike Zunino Feels Good After Rehab Game
6 years agoTampa Bay Rays catcher Mike Zunino (quadriceps) said he "felt good" after his first rehab game with High-A Charlotte on Tuesday and hopes to return to the team soon. He went 3-for-3 with a double and two walks on Tuesday and played seven innings behind the plate. Zunino thinks he could return as early as this weekend against the Twins. Manager Kevin Cash said the team won't bring Zunino back until he's at or near 100 percent. He'll catch seven more innings on Thursday before the team makes a decision whether to activate him. Zunino is hitting just .220 on the season, but his power stroke is what makes him valuable in two-catcher leagues. Travis D'Arnaud and Erik Kratz continue to split the catching duties, but Kratz figures to be sent out once Zunino is ready to return.
