Deshaun Watson 2019 Outlook: Health Will Determine How High Watson Finishes
6 years agoWhile Deshaun Watson played all 16 games last season, the Houston Texans quarterback struggled with a variety of injuries, including a bruised lung that was bad enough to keep Watson from taking a team flight to an away game. In spite of this, Watson still managed to finish as the overall QB4 in fantasy last season. Can a healthier Watson challenge Patrick Mahomes for the top quarterback spot in 2019? Possibly. Last year, Watson threw for 4,165 yards, 26 touchdowns, and nine interceptions despite Houston not having the best receiving options outside of star wideout DeAndre Hopkins. Watson also proved valuable as a runner, adding 551 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. The Texans might want to look to limit Watson’s runs a little more this year, but an improved offensive line and a presumably more healthy receiving corps with Will Fuller and Keke Coutee back can help Watson make even more of an impact with his arm. Watson’s got a ceiling as high as any quarterback this season, but fantasy owners may be worried about his track record of injuries when draft season arrives. While those concerns have some validity, Watson’s worth a look as the third or fourth quarterback off the board in fantasy drafts.
