Brad Keller Ejected After HBP
6 years agoKansas City Royals starting pitcher Brad Keller is apparently one of those pitchers with the old-school mindset. Following a blast by Tim Anderson that included some showboating, Keller promptly hit him in the back with the first pitch of his next at-bat. A stereotypical baseball fight that included nothing but yelling and half-hearted restraints from teammates ensued, and Keller was one of four individuals ejected. Through 5+ innings, Keller had allowed two earned runs on four hits and four walks, but he wouldn't figure into the extra-inning decision. Keller was a pitcher to be wary about coming into the season, and though he's mixed in a couple stellar outings from a run scoring standpoint, he's added a new concerning wrinkle this year. Keller is currently walking five batters per nine innings. That's the worst rate in the league amongst any pitcher with more than 23 innings pitched so far this year, and to say that's untenable is putting it mildly. He'll face the first-place Rays next week, and that's not a recommended start as long as his walk rate is this high.
