BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ team leagues
OWNED IN: 11% of leagues
ANALYSIS: The Rays clearly have plans to feature Lowe in their lineup moving forward after they signed him to a six-year, $24 million contract extension. Although he wasn't in the starting lineup for Game 2 of the regular season, he served as the designated hitter and batted cleanup on Opening Day. He was certainly deserving, hitting .377 (20-for-53) with three home runs and 17 RBI in 18 Grapefruit League games. But a lot of fantasy owners might not even know Lowe's name after he slashed .233/.324/.450 with six long balls and 25 RBI in 43 games in his rookie season in 2018.
The Rays are deep with utility guys like Lowe -- Joey Wendle, Daniel Robertson, Yandy Diaz are others -- but the 2015 third-round pick has the most upside of them all. The 24-year-old left-handed hitter batted an impressive .304 with 14 homers at Triple-A Durham last year before his call-up and slugged 22 dingers overall in two minor league stops. Lowe's power upside and positional flexibility (he might also play some first base) may come in handy for those in mixed leagues if he sees consistent playing time. He's a sneaky waiver wire grab in the early going before your leaguemates learn his name.
