Dylan Cease 2019 Outlook: Dominant Season Leads To More Pitching Buzz
6 years agoChicago White Sox pitching prospect Dylan Cease finds himself on the cusp of reaching the majors and joining the rotation. As a former sixth-round draft pick, Cease has pushed his way towards becoming one of the top pitching prospects the minors. That statement was made even clearer with his unbelievable performance in 2018. He started the year in High-A, finishing with a 2.89 earned run average across 71 innings to a 9-2 record. Cease was then promoted to Double-A where he continued his dominance in 10 starts. He struck out 78 batters in 52 innings (39% K rate) towards a career-best 1.72 ERA. The basis of his success was his mid-90s fastball and his stupefying curveball. While he could easily compete for a spot in the rotation in 2019, he will likely spend the year getting more seasoning with a full-time spot in the bigs in 2020. Unless you are in a very deep league with plenty of bench spots, there's no reason to roster him to start the year.
