Lewis Brinson 2019 Outlook: Looks To Improve On Disappointing Rookie Season
6 years agoMiami Marlins outfielder Lewis Brinson was the centerpiece of the trade that sent MVP Christian Yelich to Milwaukee. Brinson was a highly regarded prospect, coming off an impressive .331/.400/.562 line in Triple-A in 2017. He struggled in his September call up with the Brewers in 2017, and those struggles continued as a Marlin in 2018. For the year, he ended up with an atrocious .199/.240/.338 line with 11 home runs. He was sent down and struggled in the minors as well, hitting just .130 in eight games at Double-A and .222 in six games at Triple-A. He showed some signs of his promise in June, putting up a .848 OPS and 125 wRC+. He'll need a lot more months like that one in 2019 to be worth anything in the fantasy world. Brinson is more of a wait-and-see fantasy target, maybe someone to draft with your last pick just because of his upside. The Marlins are not in a position to win much in 2019, therefore, Brinson will at least have a long enough leash where he should be able to work out any issues at the big league level.
