Phillies Discussing Paul Goldschmidt
6 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies have discussed trading for Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt. A source said the two teams discussed a package that would've included starting pitcher Zach Eflin and several young players, but it fell apart when the Phillies tried to add first baseman Carlos Santana. Philly is prepared to sign both free-agent outfielder Bryce Harper and shortstop Manny Machado this offseason, so they will clearly be aggressive in their pursuit to improve and return to the postseason. Goldy had a rough first half in 2018 but rebounded in the second half to produce elite first base numbers. Philly and their hitter-friendly home environment would definitely be an attractive place for Goldschmidt to play.
