Austin Hays Resumes Running
6 years agoBaltimore Orioles outfield prospect Austin Hays (ankle), the No. 4 prospect in the organization, started a running program on Monday after having surgery on Sept. 13 to repair a stress fracture and cartilage defects in his left ankle. Two screws were inserted into his ankle and a bone graft was performed to prevent a cyst from returning. Hays is encouraged with his progress so far after being limited to 75 games in the minors last year. He's expected to be ready to compete for a job in spring training, but because of all the lost time due to injury this year, he's likely ticketed for the minors. Hays hit just .242/.271/.432 with 12 doubles, two triples, 12 home runs and 43 RBI for Double-A Bowie. He has tremendous potential when healthy, though, and he could be up at some point in 2019 if he proves his health. He's worth a stash already in dynasty/keeper leagues.
