Josh McCown Will Not Play Thursday
6 years agoNew York Jets quarterback Josh McCown will not play in Thursday's preseason game against the Washington Redskins. Apparently head coach Todd Bowles wants to see a lot more of rookie Sam Darnold, as well as Teddy Bridgewater. It's unlikely the Jets will be able to move the aging McCown, as he is 39 years old and making $10 million for 2018. No one is going to want to take on that contract. So Bridgewater will be given extended playing time, hopefully building on his successful initial preseason outing to increase his stock even more. It's likely the Jets try to deal Bridgewater to a club without a logjam in the quarterback room, and their offseason gamble on his health could pay off in the result of some additional future draft picks and/or an impact player at a position of need.
