Michael Gallup 2018 Outlook: Cowboys WR1 Of The Future...But When?
6 years agoAt some point, Michael Gallup is going to be the Cowboys' WR1. It shouldn't necessarily be Week 1 of 2018, but he should certainly start. He is already, by far, the second best WR on the team and potentially better than Allen Hurns as well. However, Gallup will certainly not be starting Week 1, even in three WR sets, mostly because Jason Garrett and the entire Cowboys coaching staff is completely incompetent. The horrendous Terrance Williams will start on the outside with Hurns while replacement level talent, Cole Beasley, mans the slot. It's an inexcusable dereliction of duty by the Cowboys, but one we've come to expect from an organization that repeatedly fails to optimize its talent. That's not to say all hope is lost for Gallup, though. He will likely be a late round target in redraft leagues and then dropped early in the season when he doesn't play much. However, he could emerge as a factor later in the season similar to Juju Smith-Schuster in 2017 either via injury or if the team figures out that he deserves to be on the field. Gallup is worth a late round flier, but is more of a guy to monitor throughout the season and try and grab before his value spikes.
