Eli Manning 2018 Outlook: A Bounce Back Season On The Horizon?
6 years agoAfter three straight years of over 4,000 yards and at least 26 touchdown passes, Manning took a major step back in 2017. The 14-year veteran threw just 19 touchdown passes to go along with 3,468 yards, which was his lowest total since 2008. However, there is reason for optimism for Eli and the rest of the Giants offense. For starters, superstar wide receiver Odell Beckham and Sterling Shepard are healthy after missing a combined total of 17 games last season. The Giants also added college sensation Saquon Barkley with the second overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, which gives Manning a dynamic threat out of the backfield and the best running back he’s played with since Tiki Barber. Lastly, the free agent acquisition of Nate Solder will help bolster an offensive line that surrendered 27 sacks last season. Manning currently has an ECR of QB24, and an ADP of the 14th round, 171 overall. That is a ranking he should be able to out-perform after finishing 23rd last year in fantasy points among all quarterbacks. With a plethora of weapons around him, a drastic improvement from 2017 seems probable. Having said that, Manning is still a far cry from being considered a QB1 in a year where the quarterback position is as deep as ever. The 37-year-old should be drafted as a QB2 with starting potential in favorable matchups.
