Rod Smith 2018 Outlook: Running Behind The Cowboys Offensive Line Is Good
6 years agoYou definitely want the running back running behind the Cowboys offensive line. Obviously, that should be Ezekiel Elliott. But as we've seen, Elliott isn't exactly a model citizen. He comes with increased risk of a suspension and the standard injury risk that comes when you play running back in the NFL. If Zeke were to go down, I believe it will be Rod Smith that takes over the majority of the work. Smith is an excellent pass catcher and big enough to handle goal line carries, the two most important traits you want your RB to have in fantasy. Smith is nothing more than a pure handcuff and while I don't believe in handcuffing, in deeper leagues, every late round pick you make is a player that isn't guaranteed playing time. When drafting non-starters, you want plausible upside. If your guy ends up starting, can he produce? For Rod Smith, the answer is yes.
