Alex Colome Blows Save Thursday
7 years agoTampa Bay Rays closer Alex Colome blew the save opportunity Thursday versus Boston. The Rays were leading 2-0 going into the bottom of the ninth inning. Colome would last one inning but gave up two runs on four hits and two walks. The Red Sox would take their new life and win the game 3-2 in 12 innings. It was Colome's second opportunity of the season and his first blown save of 2018. Colome recorded an MLB-leading 47 saves in 2017, but his overall numbers elsewhere weren't as impressive as his 2016 campaign. His strikeout and walk rates both went in the wrong direction, and his ERA jumped up more than a full run to 3.24 from 1.90 in 2016. He still should be owned in most leagues where saves are a category, and the blown saves should be fairly rare.
