Nick Markakis Does Not Do Enough
7 years agoAtlanta Braves outfielder Nick Markakis has posted an .800 OPS in five of his 12 MLB seasons, but none of them have come since 2012 and he only had a .738 OPS last season. Markakis hit .275 with eight home runs, 76 runs scored, and 76 RBI last season, going 0-for-2 on stolen bases as well. A player that stole double digit bases three times in his early career, Markakis has stolen just eight bases in the last six seasons and also only has 21 home runs in his three seasons with the Braves. Known for his contact hitting (.296 batting average in 2015 with the Braves), Markakis only has a .272 batting average over the last two seasons. He did have 39 doubles last season (and has 115 doubles with the Braves since 2015), but, unfortunately, doubles are not a category in most leagues. There are some silver linings in batted ball statistics with Markakis, as his hard hit ball rate has gone up in each season in Atlanta, up to 33.1% last season. He also saw his line drive rate jump to 22.2% (his best since 2013) and was right at his career average of soft hit balls (15.6%). No matter the positives, there is no reason to own a low-floor outfielder on a team that will likely struggle offensively.
