Jeff Samardzija Sees Stock Slip With Injury
7 years agoDespite a 4.42 ERA in 2017, Jeff Samardzija had a quality year, topping 200 or more innings for the fifth time and had a cool 1.13 WHIP to go with 8.9 K/9. However, Samardzija will open the 2018 season on the disabled list with a strained pectoral muscle. He could miss a good chunk of April and may miss a month or more. This will be the first career DL stint for the 33-year-old right-hander, but it torpedoes his fantasy value. He was looking for a bounce back season after winning just nine games last season, but he will need to show that he is healthy first. It is not wise to pick him within the first 250 picks of the draft and he may be better off starting the season on the waiver wire.
