Ozzie Albies Has Stats From Everywhere
7 years agoOzzie Albies is a 20-year-old switch hitter that is primarily known for his speed, but provides a little power as well. He was called up in 2017 and in 57 games demonstrated the qualities that made him a highly regarded prospect, hitting six home runs and eight stolen bases. Albies also had a .286 average, .354 on-base percentage, and .456 slugging. Albies found success from both sides of the plate; he had a weighted on-base average of .396 against left-handers and .331 against right-handers. Of the two, he was clearly more productive from the right side of the plate, as he had an on-base plus slugging of .926 batting right-handed and .773 OPS when hitting left-handed. Albies changed his swing path in 2017 and reduced his ground-ball percentage to the lowest in his professional career (40.9), while increasing fly-ball percentage to 40.3. Time will determine whether it was a short sample size or if he has made adjustments that can be repeated. Regardless, Albies has shown quality plate discipline and contact (80%) that will increase likelihood of success. He had an 8.6% base on balls and 14.8 strikeout percentage. Albies will be drafted near the 12th round. With speed at a premium, grab him earlier and enjoy both the speed and power he provides. In dynasty leagues, check to see if he can be obtained at a reasonable price before his value skyrockets from proving he is a top-10 second baseman.
