Alex Verdugo Can Make Impact In 2018
7 years agoRemember when a guy name Cody Bellinger was blocked at first base going into the 2017 season? When Bellinger got his chance due to an Adrian Gonzalez injury, he took it and ran with it, making him one of the best fantasy players in 2017. His teammate, outfielder Alex Verdugo has the chance to have that same kind of impact in 2018. The Dodgers outfield is currently crowded with Yasiel Puig, Joc Pederson, Chris Taylor, Matt Kemp, Kike Hernandez and Andrew Toles. Although there are a lot of options in the outfield for the Dodgers, Aside from Taylor and Puig, none are locks in a starting role with Kemp likely to be dealt or released prior to Opening Day. Verdugo did get a cup-of-coffee to finish 2017 and struggled hitting .173 in just 23 at-bats. Verdugo is one of the best hitters in the minors and hits the ball all over the field. He isn't a huge power hitter, but should help fantasy owners in all leagues with his ability to get on base and score runs. Playing time and his spot in the lineup will be a factor, but he should be owned and drafted in all leagues as he will likely spend more time with the big league club than in the minors this year.
