Amir Garrett Hoping To Win No. 5 Starter Role This Spring
7 years agoCincinnati Reds left-hander Amir Garrett got his 2017 rookie campaign off to a hot start. The left-hander allowed just four earned runs over his first three big leagues starts this past season, spanning 19 2/3 innings of work. After that, however, Garrett's season took a turn for the worse. He wound up getting demoted back to Triple-A in late June, before resurfacing in September for a few late-season appearances. In all, Garrett posted a 3-8 record, 7.39 ERA, and 63 strikeouts in 70 2/3 innings of work. Garrett is expected to compete with Robert Stephenson and Sal Romano for the No. 5 starter role in the Reds' rotation this spring. Even if he wins the job, Garrett is well off the fantasy radar until he shows that he's able to get batters out at the big league level on a consistent basis.
