Greg Bird Has Run Production Opportunities
7 years agoGreg Bird’s 2017 season was defined by frustration, hope and excitement. The 25-year-old was finally looking forward to his sophomore season after missing the entire 2016 campaign following right labrum surgery. Bird seemed poised for a monster 2017 season after a Spring Training that saw him hit .451, but the wheels completely fell off once the season began. At the end of April, he was hitting .107, eventually succumbing to a right ankle bruise and subsequent DL stint. Numerous setbacks pushed his return all the way to late August, before becoming an integral part of the Yankees’ postseason run. Looking forward, Bird’s potential is difficult to try and predict. After he returned in August, he posted an .891 OPS to go with eight home runs in 29 games, followed by a postseason in which he led the Yankees in that category. A full season for Bird could easily see him surpass 25 home runs and perhaps reach 30. Whether he remains healthy or not will be the big question. Should he do so, prospective fantasy owners can expect power with a fair share of strikeouts, but a significant number of RBI.
