Aaron Judge Happy To Have Bash Brother In The Bronx
7 years agoAfter struggling for a starting spot during Spring Training last season, Aaron Judge had one of the all-time offensive seasons for a rookie. Finishing second in the AL MVP voting and easily coasting to a ROY Award, the 25-year-old smashed 52 home runs to go with 114 RBI and a .284 batting average. His story, however, was a tale of two seasons. Prior to the All-Star break, Judge was being talked about as a possible triple crown winner, reaching a .347 average on June 12th. After the All-Star break, however, Judge struggled massively, hitting just .228 and striking out 99 times in 71 games. By September, Judge found his groove again, finishing the season on a high note. His HR/FB was an absurd 35.6%, and while he struck out at a high rate, his walk rate was second best in the sport. The optimist will look at Judge’s struggles last season as the league figuring him out, until he made the proper adjustments by September to finish strong. It seems wise not to expect another monster batting average the likes of which we saw in June, but Judge is poised to remain a tour de force in the home run department. His positioning in the lineup, along with his new teammate, Giancarlo Stanton, will provide plenty of run-driving opportunities. Additionally, don’t expect his walks to drop, creating three key categories where he will thrive. Look for Judge to go within the first two rounds of your draft.
