Tyler Chatwood Should Improve Pitching Away From Coors Field
7 years agoChicago Cubs starting pitching Tyler Chatwood is the perfect example of a pitcher who is effected by pitching his home games at Coors Field in Colorado. In 2018, Chatwood will no longer have to deal with the conditions in Colorado. Pitching his home games at Wrigley Field should help improve Chatwood's overall numbers and make him a low-end starter in fantasy leagues. In 17 games (12 starts) at Coors Field this past year, Chatwood had a rough 6.01 ERA in 70 1/3 innings. On the road and in 16 games (13 starts), the right-hander fared to be much more successful with a 3.49 ERA. Even despite his rough numbers at Coors this past season, Chatwood still holds a career 4.31 ERA which includes five years with the Rockies. Chatwood will never win anyone strikeouts with a career 6.1 K/9 but with a stellar defense behind him, the groundball pitcher should enjoy his new stomping grounds. He isn't worth anything more than a late-round pick with potential, but should enjoy his first season with Cubs.
