Joe Biagini Looks To Be Fifth Man In Blue Jays Rotation
7 years agoIn early May 2017, the Toronto Blue Jays made the move of shifting talented reliever Joe Biagini into the starting rotation. The initial results were great, but as so often happens, eventually soured down the stretch as teams were able to adjust. With a full offseason of preparation as a starting pitcher, one would think Biagini has a shot to turn in a much better year. A 5.70 ERA ERA, 1.48 WHIP, 7.13 K/9 and 3.48 BB/9 for the 2017 season certainly isn’t going to excite anyone, but it’s also tough to ignore how solid he was pitching before teams caught on (3.38 ERA, 1.04 WHIP over his first seven starts). Pitching at the back of Toronto’s rotation, Biagini likely isn’t worth a draft pick in most leagues, but is absolutely worth monitoring as he could surprise people early on.
