Steve Pearce Hoping For Better Sophomore Season In Toronto
7 years agoToronto Blue Jays leftfielder Steve Pearce is coming off a down first season as a Toronto Blue Jay, and he’s hoping to change that as the team’s projected starter in 2018. Pearce finished 2017 with a .252/.319/.438 slash line with 13 home runs across 348 plate appearances; not what fantasy owners were hoping for after a .288/.374/.492 slash line with an equal amount of home runs in 46 fewer appearances in 2016. Having a consistent starting role, if he manages to hold it, should be good news for Pearce’s outlook, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be worth fantasy consideration out of the gate. His power potential might be enticing, but with home runs up all across baseball, you’ll likely always be able to find someone who can provide that and won’t totally hurt your averages. Keep an eye on him though, in the event he’s able to return to his .867 OPS ways of 2016.
