J.A. Happ Looks To Recapture 2016 Magic
7 years agoSeemingly out of nowhere, Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher J.A. Happ morphed into a 20-game winner in 2016 with solid numbers across the board. While he wasn’t able to duplicate that level of performance in 2017, he was still good enough across his 25 starts and 145.1 innings pitched. Battling an elbow injury for a good portion of the season, Happ still finished with a 3.53 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and near career-bests of an 8.79 K/9 and 3.09 K/BB. It’s fair to wonder if Happ’s numbers would have finished closer to his 2016 totals had elbow inflammation not occurred. If he is able to improve on last year’s statistics overall, Happ could easily finish as a top 40-50 SP. Even at 35 years old, Happ has a shot at providing fantasy usefulness once again - but that doesn't mean he's worth overpaying for in drafts.
