Analysis: Most people coming into this season thought players like Jonathan Villar and the 34-year-old former All-Star Aaron Hill were insignificant place holders for the infield prospects that the Brewers have stock piled for their rebuilding process. Midway through June and we see that Villar is the MLB stolen bases leader and Hill has recaptured part of the skill set from his Silver Slugger days with a .265/.350/.405 slash line with six home runs and three stolen bases. Playing in power-friendly Miller Park has certainly been a help for Hill and his low K-rate of 14.4% and high walk rate of 11.1% have allowed for Hill to see 103 stolen base opportunities.
If old age has robbed Hill of some speed, discipline at the plate has given Hill the high volume of chances to make up for aging and earn steals. Hill actually hits very well against RHP and when playing on the road. Against RHP, Hill is hitting .278/.369/.429 in 126 AB, while he is hitting .280/.362/.451 in 82 away at-bats. Hill has gotten off to a slow start in June, but with a 1.038 OPS and five HR in 84 May at-bats, he is worth trusting moving towards July.
