Studs and Duds in Fantasy Baseball from 5/6/16

Every day, we recap the best and worst fantasy baseball performers from yesterday's games. The Cubs reminded us yet again that they are the best team in the universe Friday, while the Rays took advantage of Anaheim's misfortune.

Here's a quick look at those who impressed on Friday, and those who want to pretend the day never happened.

Editor’s Note: to read about even more waiver wire options, be sure to check out our famous waiver wire pickups list which is a running list that is updated daily. Prefer using your phone? Our free waiver wire app is available for download in the Apple Store.

Yesterday's Fantasy Baseball Studs

John Lackey (SP, CHC): Lackey has been inconsistent to begin the season, but now has two 11-strikeout games in his last four starts after holding the Nationals to two runs over seven innings.

Ben Zobrist (2B, CHC): The Zorilla has been on an absolute tear over the past week. His two-homer night gives him four in his last three games, while notching 11 RBI over that span.

Jose Ramirez (3B, CLE): Ramirez isn't much of a fantasy name, but he undoubtedly made owners in deeper leagues smile after tallying two doubles and five RBI in a rout of the Royals.

Cole Hamels (SP, TEX): Allow me to let out a sigh of relief on behalf of owners everywhere. After command issues and a groin problem hampered him in his last outing, Hamels fired a one-hit shutout against the Tigers over seven innings. He struck out nine and walked just two in the contest.

Melky Cabrera (OF, CHW): Melky played a big part in the drubbing of Minnesota, collecting four hits and three RBI. He now has 10 knocks in his last five games, bringing his average from .278 to .315.

Francisco Liriano (SP, PIT): Liriano punched out 10 Cardinals while allowing two runs over seven innings. He has allowed three runs and struck out 16 over in his last two starts.

Carlos Correa (SS, HOU): Correa has tallied six hits (two home runs) and five RBI over his last three games following a 3-for-3 performance against the Mariners.

Jung Ho Kang (SS, PIT): Let's hope you haven't forgotten about this guy. Kang reintroduced himself to the baseball world following a lengthy rehabilitation from knee surgery by hitting two home runs and collecting three RBI in four at-bats.

Brad Miller (SS, TB): Who says shortstop is a light-hitting position? Miller notched four hits, including a home run in the third inning off sacrificial lamb Cory Rasmus.

Daniel Murphy (2B, WSH): Murphy's four-hit day was his second in the last three games. He has tallied six runs scored over that span. He is also slugging .660 on the season.

Rougned Odor (2B, TEX): Odor collected three hits (including a homer and a double) in five at-bats. He now has 13(!) hits in his last seven games.

Danny Salazar (SP, CLE): Salazar threw 7.2 innings of shutout baseball while tallying nine strikeouts against the Royals. He has struck out 17 hitters over his last two outings.

Yesterday's Fantasy Baseball Duds

Ben Revere (OF, WSH): Revere went 0-for-5 in his first game since recovering from an oblique injury. He is now hitless in seven at-bats this season.

Delino DeShields (OF, TEX): The stolen base upside DeShields possessed heading into the season is fading fast. He is hitless in his last nine at-bats after an 0-for-4 collar against the Tigers, and could be the odd man out when Shin-Soo Choo returns.

Cesar Hernandez (2B, PHI): Hernandez is our second addition to the 0-for-5 club. He is sporting a .247 average with no home runs this season.

Max Scherzer (SP, WSH): Scherzer suffered his worst start as a member of the Nationals, surrendering a whopping four home runs in just five innings during his loss to the Cubs. His ERA ballooned to 4.60 after the rough outing.

Taijuan Walker (SP, SEA): Walker deserves to be here by the letter of the law, but we can't exactly blame him for suffering neck spasms. He pitched just two innings in what was a wasted night for owners. Thankfully, he is expected to be fine for his next start against the Rays.
