Welcome to the new Daily Fantasy Hockey weekly waiver wire report. Each week I will be updating some of the players we should targeting on the waiver wire to help us build a championship fantasy hockey team. The recommendations will focus on, for the most part, standard Yahoo Hockey leagues with the following stat categories:
- Goals
- Assists
- Powerplay Points
- Short Handed Points
- +/- Rating
- Shots on Goal
- Hits
- Faceoffs Won
- Goalie Wins
- Saves
- Save %
- Goals Against Average
- Shutouts
Only players who are under 50% owned in Yahoo Fantasy Hockey will be considered for the waiver wire report. If you have specific questions about how a player fits your league settings please hit me up on Twitter(@Jager_Bombs9)
Let us now take a look at this week's low owned waiver wire options:
Fantasy Hockey Sleepers and Waiver Wire Pickups at Defense and Goaltender
Defense
Shayne Gostisbehere (PHI, D) 42% Owned (+3% from Last week)
He missed a few games with a "lower body injury" but looks to be fine moving forward. In the two games since returning, he has been held pointless but has put up 11 shots on goal and is back on the teams top powerplay unit. If the Flyers are going to continue their run to the playoffs (currently 2 points behind Canadiens), the Ghost is going to play a huge role. With a thin pool of defense in leagues of 10 or larger, he makes a great pickup at just below 50% owned in Yahoo leagues.
Marc-Edouard Vlasic (SJ, D) 32% Owned (+15% from Last week)
He is having one of his best offensive seasons of his career and is on pace to surpass his career high of 36 points back in 2008-09. In 41 games this season he has 24 points (six on the PP) and a +7 rating on 23:24 of ice time per game. The ownership spiked 15% from last week and if the Sharks keep rolling he won't be available for much longer.
Also Consider - Erik Gustafsson (CHI, D) 1% Owned
Goaltenders
Louis Domingue (ARI, G) 45% Owned (+6% from Last Week)
After a stretch where he picked up four straight wins including a shutout, he has struggled in two straight games. He has allowed five goals in those games but has only seen three goals of support in that time. With Mike Smith out at least another month, Domingue should continue to see the bulk of the work between the pipes.
Jonas Hiller (CGY, G) 42% Owned
After getting back in between the pipes for the Flames since early December he has made back to back impressive starts. He recorded a 15 save shutout vs. Florida last Wednesday and followed it up with a 36 save shootout loss to the Oilers on Saturday night. Going into the second half of the season Hiller should see more starts, making him a great pickup before the ownership spikes.
Also Available - Cam Ward (CAR, G) 41% Owned
