NHL DFS Picks for Saturday, January 16th
Welcome back for another high flying night of fantasy hockey on DraftKings and FanDuel. Tonight there are seven games on the schedule for the night slate of games starting at 7:00 pm ET. Five teams (BUF, TOR, BOS, MIN, DAL) are playing on back to back nights and two (BOS, TOR) playing a third game in four nights.
Tonight's slate lacks in safe goaltending options so paying up for the biggest favorite should be the game plan for cash games. If you are a multi lineup GPP player there are some options that might come in really low owned tonight such as Cam Talbot and Pekka Rinne. You can check out all my favorite plays on the cheatsheet.
Let's take a look at a few core plays for tonight.
Braden Holtby - Goaltender, Capitals (DraftKings - $8,600 FanDuel - $10,000)
He is the top option by a wide margin tonight. The Capitals are big favorites(-195) on the road in Buffalo to face a Sabres team who has struggled at home this year with a 8-15 record. Holtby has been lights out for the Caps going 8-0-1 in his last nine starts with a .937 save percentage. He is safe in all formats tonight.
Joe Thornton - Center, Sharks (DraftKings - $5,100 FanDuel - $5,300)
He is becoming an auto play almost every game with this recent play for the Sharks. He has recorded 14 points(5 on PP) in his last 10 games with 22 shots, and a +7 rating. His salary doesn't ever seem to climb too high making him a great mid range option tonight.
Taylor Hall - Winger, Oilers (DraftKings - $7,100 FanDuel - $7,700)
A meeting with the Oilers might just be the perfect cure to Hall's recent slump. While he has only picked up two points in the last 10 games he has fired 38 shots on goal providing a nice floor. He has been a Flame killer this season with seven points in three games this season.
Tomas Hertl - Winger, Sharks (DraftKings - $4,400 FanDuel - $3,700)
One of the best value plays in daily fantasy over the past four games skating on the top line with Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski. He has picked up a pair of goals and two assists in those games and is likely to stick for the time being. The Sharks top line is the #1 stacking option Saturday night.
Matt Niskanen - Defense, Capitals (DraftKings - $4,600 FanDuel - $4,400)
Niskanen continues to see an added workload with the absence of Brooks Orpick and John Carlson on the Capitals blue line. He makes a terrific cash game play as he has recorded five points in his last 10 games with 20 shots on goal, 19 blocks and a +8 rating.
