Welcome to the new Daily Fantasy Hockey weekly waiver wire report. Each week I will be updating some of the players we should targeting on the waiver wire to help us build a championship fantasy hockey team. The recommendations will focus on, for the most part, standard Yahoo Hockey leagues with the following stat categories:
- Goals
- Assists
- Powerplay Points
- Short Handed Points
- +/- Rating
- Shots on Goal
- Hits
- Faceoffs Won
- Goalie Wins
- Saves
- Save %
- Goals Against Average
- Shutouts
Only players who are under 50% owned in Yahoo Fantasy Hockey will be considered for the waiver wire report. If you have specific questions about how a player fits your league settings please hit me up on Twitter(@Jager_Bombs9)
Let us now take a look at this week's low owned waiver wire options:
Fantasy Hockey Sleepers and Waiver Wire Pickups at Defense and Goaltender
Defense
Shayne Gostisbehere (PHI, D) 45% Owned
This will probably be his last appearance on the waiver article. The rookie sensation has really help lift the Flyers out of the basement in the Eastern Conference putting the playoffs site. In the last two weeks the D man has recorded six points, two of them powerplay goals, 11 shots, and a +2 rating. He isn't going to get many hits or blocks but if he doesn't hurt you in the +/- department the scoring alone can add a ton of value to your fantasy team after Christmas.
Jason Demers (DAL, D) 35% Owned
He isn't guy that is going to help you in the offensive categories but can add value in the peripheral stats. He has picked up three points, 12 shots, 11 blocks and 6 hits in the last two weeks. He also added an amazing +9 rating in that time and is now up to +16 on the season. His 2015/16 season is starting to look a lot like his 2013/14 season with teh Sharks where he posted career highs in points and added a +14 rating.
Dan Boyle (NYR, D) 38% Owned
The aging veteran has been red hot lately and starting to look like the Boyle of old with offensive upside from the point. He has picked up four goals and three assists in his last eight games adding 18 shots on net, seven hits and 12 blocks. He has been doing all this while the Rangers struggle to pickup wins. As they start to play better as a team after the break, his scoring upside should remain and provide value for your fantasy team.

Goaltenders
Darcy Kuemper (MIN, G) 21% Owned
He has made six starts in December as Devan Dubnyk's backup and did not allow more than two goals once and picked up four wins. He has yet to lose in regulation this season and now has a 4-0-4 record with a .926 save percentage. Goalies are hard to come by in 10+ person leagues and it can sometimes be a good idea to stash a backup in case of injury or he plays his way into a bigger role. If you don't have the roster space to stash a goalie, he makes a terrific streaming option once or twice a week.
Chad Johnson (BUF, G) 19% Owned
The Buffalo Sabres are a young team that will be on the rise very soon. They have stock piled young talent and are relying on 29 year old Chad Johnson between the pipes. Since mid December he has made three starts and went 2-1 with a .966 save % and a shutout vs. the Ducks. If your league counts saves as a total he makes a great option as the Sabres have been allowing over 30 shots a game lately when he is in net.
