Welcome to the new Daily Fantasy Hockey weekly waiver wire report. Each week I will be updating some of the players we should targeting on the waiver wire to help us build a championship fantasy hockey team. The recommendations will focus on, for the most part, standard Yahoo Hockey leagues with the following stat categories:
- Goals
- Assists
- Powerplay Points
- Short Handed Points
- +/- Rating
- Shots on Goal
- Hits
- Faceoffs Won
- Goalie Wins
- Saves
- Save %
- Goals Against Average
- Shutouts
Only players who are under 50% owned in Yahoo Fantasy Hockey will be considered for the waiver wire report. If you have specific questions about how a player fits your league settings please hit me up on Twitter(@Jager_Bombs9)
Let us now take a look at this week's low owned waiver wire options:
Fantasy Hockey Sleepers and Waiver Wire Pickups at Defense and Goaltender
Defense
Shayne Gostisbehere (PHI, D) 35% Owned
He is still available in 65% of Yahoo leagues and continues to impress with his scoring ability on the blue line. He has been inconsistent with the scoring as the Flyers rank 29th in offense but he shoots a ton and is the quarterback on the powerplay. The Flyers have a nice schedule this week with home games against Carolina and Vancouver and a road matchup in Columbus.
Alec Martinez (LAK, D) 13% Owned
A great pick up in deeper leagues or leagues where you punted defense at the draft. He has points in three of his last four games and has been contributing in other categories. He has been averaging three shots per game over the last week and adds blocked shots and hits if your league uses those stats.
Ron Hainsey (CAR, D) 3% Owned
A very low owned player available in almost all Yahoo leagues. He has been a very consistent fantasy producer over the past two weeks with six points in his last seven games and has added a +5 rating. He will add the odd penalty minute, gets just over a shot a game and will add hits and blocks. Great option to stream in good matchups.
Also Available - Olli Maatta (PIT, D) 44% Owned
Goaltenders
Connor Hellebuyck (WPG, G) 31% Owned
The ownership is climbing fast and for good reason. The rookie has started his career with a 4-1 record and .938 save percentage. He has only allowed more than two goals once in his those five starts and has been seeing an average of 29 shots a against. He will get the start at home vs. St. Louis tonight and if he has another good start, he won't be on the waivers next week.
Michal Neuvirth (PHI, G) 49% Owned
For once the problem in Philadelphia has not bee the goaltending. Neuvirth has rotated starts with Steve Mason but has been the better goalie to this point. He has a 7-4-2 record with league high .939 save % and has only allowed more than 3 goals in a game once in 13 games(11 starts). This will likely be the last time he shows up on the waiver report. He has a home matchup tonight vs. the Hurricanes which will be his third straight start. He is winning over the coach for the top spot.
Also Available - Thomas Greiss (NYI, G) 32% Owned
