When Le’Veon Bell was ruled out for the rest of the season, DeAngelo Williams owners jumped for joy. As soon as Bell went out, Williams became an every week RB1 regardless of matchup. Unfortunately, the 32-year-old running back may not be able to stay healthy carrying the load.
Williams is dealing with a foot injury and was held out of practice on Wednesday. His official status for Week 10 is listed as questionable.
It sounds like Williams will probably play against the Cleveland Browns, but I wouldn’t be surprised if head coach Mike Tomlin limited his carries. Even so, Williams should be considered a RB1 if he suits up.
Through nine games this season Williams has 480 yards rushing and five touchdowns for an average of 5.3 yards per carry. He has added 12 receptions and 122 yards in the passing game.
If Williams does sit out, the Steelers would likely split carries between Jordan Todman and Isaiah Pead. However, I wouldn’t consider starting either back if Williams is ruled out.
In other news, Vincent Jackson’s fantasy football owners can continue being upset with the wide receiver. The 32-year-old remained sidelined at practice again on Wednesday for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Although he is officially listed as questionable for Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, his status sounds more doubtful than anything. If he does play, I would consider him a WR3 at best. Even when he has played this season he has struggled with inconsistencies.
In the six games that Jackson has participated in this season, he has hauled in only 21 passes for 319 yards and two touchdowns.
Jackson can’t be completely blamed for his bad season. Some of the blame goes to rookie Jameis Winston, who has had his only struggles with being consistent this season.
Whether Jackson plays or not, Mike Evans should be considered a WR1 in all leagues. The 22-year-old caught eight passes for 152 yards in Week 9 against the Giants. But what’s impressive is the fact that he saw 19 targets from his rookie quarterback. That means, if Jackson does sit out – Evans will see plenty of footballs thrown his way.
In the seven games he has played this season, Evans has 32 catches for 538 yards and one touchdown. He’s one of the best young receivers in the game, but he’s still developing chemistry with Winston.
