Although no decision has been made on T.Y. Hilton’s Week 9 status against the Denver Broncos, it’s not looking good for the Indianapolis Colts wide receiver. According to NFL Network’s Rand Getlin, Hilton “looks like a game-time decision.”
Hilton had an MRI on his foot on Tuesday following the team’s Week 8 loss to the Carolina Panthers. He hasn’t practiced at all this week yet, so I would consider his status doubtful at best.
Given what we know about Hilton’s current status, and the fact that the Colts are facing a tough Broncos defense, consider him a low-end WR3 at best, even if he does suit up.
Obviously Hilton isn’t healthy, which is worrisome for fantasy owners. Even if he does get the green light to play this week, I’m worried the team would just use him as a decoy knowing he’s not anywhere near 100 percent.
Hilton’s injury is a big blow for his fantasy owners. The receiver has hauled in 38 passes for 621 yards and three touchdowns thus far this season. His absence against the Broncos would create more opportunities for tight end Coby Fleener to shine. Fleener moves to a high-end TE2 if Hilton is ruled out.
Speaking of tight ends, San Diego Chargers’ Ladarius Green was seen watching Thursday’s practice in a protective boot on his left foot that suffered an ankle injury.
The Union-Tribune San Diego is calling the injury a sprain, but it has held him out of practice all week and he is doubtful for Week 9’s Monday night matchup against the Chicago Bears.
Green performed great for his fantasy owners while Antonio Gates was serving his suspension earlier in the season. Even when Gates returned, Green was a solid performer. However, it has always been clear that quarterback Philip Rivers has preferred to throw to Gates. Because of that, Green has been a TE2 since Gates’ return.
Through seven games this season, Green has hauled in 27 passes for 314 yards and four touchdowns. At only 25-years-old, he’s a great tight end to own in dynasty and keeper leagues.
He has the talent and experience to become one of the best tight ends in the league. He’s scheduled to become a free agent following the season and he will undoubtedly be a hot commodity. The Chargers will probably try to keep him, but Green will likely decide to jump ship and go to a team who utilizes him as their full-time starter.
