It may be time for Houston Texans third-round draft pick Jaelen Strong to step up at wide receiver after Cecil Shorts dislocated his left shoulder on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. In addition to Shorts being out for an undetermined amount of time, receiver Nate Washington is dealing with a hamstring injury.
Strong has a lot of talent, but hasn't been given an opportunity to put his skills on display in the NFL yet. If Washington and Shorts both miss time, head coach Bill O'Brien will have no choice but to let his rookie receiver see playing time.
Unfortunately, the Texans are again trying to decide between Ryan Mallett and Brian Hoyer at quarterback. It seemed like Mallett had the job won, but he was benched on Sunday against the Falcons late in the game.
If you have an open roster spot, Strong may be worth picking up. Don't start him quite yet, but hold onto him and see if he can take advantage of more playing time against the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday night.
