Michael Kopech 2025 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: Starter Turned Reliever Enters 2025 Without A Clear Role
11 mins agoDespite their World Series victory, the Dodgers spent much of 2024 with a volatile back-end of their bullpen. The acquisition of Michael Kopech certainly helped solidify things and he emerged as a leading candidate for saves heading into 2025. Following the trade, Kopech had a 4-0 W-L record, 1.13 ERA, 0.79 WHIP, 29 Ks, and six saves (24.0 IP). To sure things up in the late innings this year, the Dodgers signed Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates in the offseason. It seems like Kopech will find it difficult to get many save opportunities. That doesn't mean he should be ignored in drafts. Kopech pitched well enough in 2024 to get higher leverage work in 2025. While he didn't record a save in the postseason (10.0 IP), Kopech did record three holds. And it's the holds whereby Kopech will likely provide the most fantasy value. While he will still pick up some saves and tally plenty of strikeouts, Kopech will be most valuable in leagues counting holds. In leagues only counting saves, Kopech is only worth a last-round pick as a flyer. He should help your ratios while chipping in with the occasional save, but better options will likely be available for saves.
