Quinn Mathews 2025 Player Outlook: Budding Ace Nearing Big League Debut
12 mins agoSt. Louis Cardinals starting pitching prospect Quinn Mathews is considered the No.3 ranked prospect in the St. Louis system and is inching closer to his major league debut. Last summer, Mathews made his professional debut at Single-A and needed just 30 2/3 innings of work to reach High-A. With High-A Peoria, the southpaw continued to dominate as he struck out 58 batters in 43 innings of work. He then moved up to Double-A, where he posted another sub-3.00 ERA across a similar 52 innings. With Double-A, he continued to showcase elite strikeout upside as he tallied 70, which put him at a stellar 33.8% clip. The Stanford product was able to end his 2024 season with Triple-A but hit a bit of a skid as he allowed 12 runs in just 16 frames. He also posted a 27.8% K rate, the lowest at any level he had last season. However, seeing him progress throughout the St. Louis system at this rate is impressive. Fantasy managers should expect the 24-year-old to begin the season at Triple-A, but given his elite progression, he may only need a few months to finish his development. With the Cardinals already exploring trades for Eric Fedde and Steven Matz, Mathews' debut in St. Louis may be sooner rather than later. When he does make his debut, he will be a highly coveted fantasy asset, given his elite strikeout upside. Fantasy managers should only be targeting Mathews in deeper NL-only formats at his current 580.56 ADP on the NFBC.
