Michael King Looks To Repeat A Magnificent 2024 Season
1 day agoA year ago at this time, we were unsure how Michael King would perform in a new role. Acquired from the New York Yankees in the massive Juan Soto trade, King was set to transition to a starting role last winter. In 30 starts, King went 13-9 with a sparkling 2.95 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP, and a whopping 201 strikeouts in 173 innings. The right-hander proved adept at limiting hard contact, with his 85.7 MPH average exit velocity being in the 99th percentile in MLB. His hard-hit percentage was 30.3%, which was in the 97th percentile. King relies on a four-pitch mix headlined by a sinker, a changeup, and a four-seamer, all of which he throws from 24-27% of the time, adding in a sweeper and occasional slider as well. King should continue to see success in 2025 even if his ERA normalizes a half-run higher.
