San Francisco 49ers kicker Jake Moody (ankle) was the unfortunate loser of a bizarre play in which he tried to make a tackle on a kick return. His right ankle was pinned underneath his body and twisted hard to the outside, resulting in the current ailment.
He's now missed three straight games and is heading into his team's bye week, which will give him additional time to recover. The team signed kicker Matthew Wright (shoulder) to replace him. Even more bizarrely, Wright picked up a shoulder injury and was placed on IR. The team then signed Anders Carlson, who has stayed healthy.
Carlson has converted all his kick attempts for the team. So will Moody remain the starter when he's back?

Will Jake Moody Start For The 49ers When He Returns?
He most likely will be the starter again. He played well this season, and Carlson has had issues with accuracy in the past. The former Green Bay Packer lasted just one season with his initial team before he was let go and replaced due to converting just 84.2% of his kicks.

The injury to Moody looked quite ugly, but it's most likely just a matter of time until he reclaims his job. He's improved his accuracy from 84.0% in 2023 to a much better 92.9% through five games this season.
Jake Moody Fantasy Football Outlook
He's lucky to be on an excellent offense that gets within scoring range often, and he's far more precise than he was last season, so he should be a locked-in starter in leagues that still feature kickers. He had a good streak in 2023 of high-scoring games before his accuracy became an issue.

He should probably be rostered in most leagues after the Week 9 bye, as that will mark his fourth week of rest, and typically players suffering from high-ankle sprains can make their return soon after that time period. It may be different for him since he's a kicker, but the upside will be there.
