When Is Jordan Addison Coming Back? Fantasy Football Injury Return Update for Week 4 (2024)

Jordan Addison - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison (ankle) had a huge rookie season in 2023. Though he finished as just the WR23 in PPR, he had multiple huge boom weeks when QB Kirk Cousins was leading the team and scored over 15 PPR fantasy points seven times.

Unfortunately, Addison suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 1 of the 2024 season after having already sprained the same ankle in training camp. This was a worrying development considering Addison has a history of injuries to that same ankle (right).

When will Jordan Addison return to play from this injury? Let's dive in.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2024:

Jordan Addison Injury Update for Fantasy Football

Addison was injured when a Giants player performed a hip-drop tackle on him after he made a catch in Week 1 (what a surprise, hip-drop tackles are still being allowed). The defender's lower body weight all fell on Addison's right ankle and twisted his foot nearly 90 degrees to the outside.

The exact severity is not known, but it looked pretty bad. Addison is now rehabbing the same ankle he's sprained (officially) three times. That being said, it's likely most players would've suffered a similar injury given how far Addison's foot rotated.

The good news is that Addison will practice on Wednesday. It looks like he has a shot to play in Week 4. Addison managers will need to keep their eyes out for more updates on the situation as the week progresses, but practicing at all on Wednesday is a good sign.

Jordan Addison Fantasy Football Outlook

There was apprehension that QB Sam Darnold wouldn't be effective, and no Vikings pass-catchers other than No. 1 WR Justin Jefferson would be fantasy-relevant. However, Darnold has played very well. WR Jalen Nailor has been a nice surprise with three touchdowns through three games (not very nice for Addison managers, though).

Darnold is playing the best football of his life. Head coach Kevin O'Connell is running a great offense. There's support in the run game from Aaron Jones. Addison should be fantasy-relevant when he returns if he's fully recovered. In the short term, he's a fine WR3/flex player with upside based on how much volume he gets.

In the long term, the return of T.J. Hockenson may make it more difficult for Addison to produce. Hockenson is an elite tight end who demands significant targets, and he and Jefferson make for formidable target competition.

Darnold won't throw four touchdowns every game and isn't as high a volume passer as former Vikings QB Kirk Cousins was, so Addison may need to score a lot of touchdowns to remain fantasy-relevant all season.
