ANALYSIS: Allen began the season as the RB2 on the Jets’ depth chart and the clear backup to Breece Hall. However, Allen is carving out his own role in the offense and has legitimately looked like a good running back at the NFL level.

The rookie running back has seen his playing time increase since Week 1 and has played quite well. He has actually performed better than Hall in Next Gen Stats Rush Yards Over Expected (RYOE) and RYOE Per Attempt. This doesn’t mean Allen will take over the backfield, but it does support the eye test and confirms Allen can play.
Should Hall ever be forced to miss action, Allen can produce at a high level. Not only is he one of the top handcuffs, but he also offers standalone value as a potential flex play in deeper leagues. Allen is a priority add if he’s still on waivers in your league.
The Jets have such a strong defense that running the ball and chewing some clock helps to keep the unit fresh. Hall and Allen are a nice 1-2 punch in that regard.
