Is Todd Gilliland Worth Rostering In Tournament Lineups?
3 months agoTodd Gilliland of Front Row Motorsports qualified third for the Quaker State 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. It is the highest starting position ever for Gilliland in his Cup career at Atlanta and the second consecutive time he will start inside the Top 5 at the site. In five starts at AMS, Gilliland has three top-20 finishes with a best finish of 15th. Gilliland also had one of his strongest runs of the year in the February race at the site, where he led the most laps of all drivers in the event (58) before fading back to 26th. With 26 races completed in 2024, Gilliland has 15 top-20 finishes, including 16 finishes with positive Place Differential. At superspeedways this season, Gilliland led in three of the four events at the track type while having a best finish of eighth at Talladega at the track type. The No. 38 Ford driver is one of the riskiest drivers in the field, as he offers almost no upside based on his starting position. Despite that, due to his equipment, low salary, and Atlanta performance from earlier in the year, Gilliland makes for a capable contrarian play who could help a tournament lineup.
